OneSource (ONE) and Altice Labs (ALB) have demonstrated the 5G capabilities for a potential PPDR situation in Madeira (Portugal)

News & Events OneSource (ONE) and Altice Labs (ALB) have demonstrated the 5G capabilities for a potential PPDR situation in Madeira (Portugal) The event happened on the past 8th of September and counted with the presence of Ana Figueiredo (ALTICE Portugal CEO), Miguel Albuquerque (governor of Madeira region) as well as several high-ranking members of the regional first responder and civil protection organizations. The event focused on the simulation of a serious motorcycle accident, which required the presence of police, firefighters, ambulance crew and even a fast-response medical team – EMIR. The flow of event followed a narrative as close as possible to a real situation: (i) starting by a phone call to the emergency number; (ii) dispatch of the first responder teams and (iii) already on site, a thorough assessment of the victim, ending with the transportation of the victim to the nearest hospital. The whole action was monitored from a central command centre by the responsible(s) of each of the local first responder organizations, leveraging the field awareness capabilities provided by the Mobitrust platform. During the demonstration there were a total of 12 upstream videos in real time, with an average of almost 100Mbps total upstream bandwidth (bodycams, vehicle cameras andsurveillance cameras) plus multiple sensors and management data. In the control room, videos were displayed in HD from multiple devices (PC, tablet and phone), always delivering a low delay and fluid view of the field. As part of the assistance, and considering it was a critical victim, a remote video consultation with an hospital physician was executed, transmitting an ultrasound performed on-site with the aim of demonstrating the capabilities of 5G to support a quicker identification of intervention needs. This procedure enables the hospital to be prepared for the arrival of the victim with the required resources, acting faster in the best interest of the victim’s health, and also decision-making to conduct minor procedures still on site that may improve the chances of success of the relief operation. This event would not happen without the cooperation between the ALB and ONE teams, who prepared the required resources, namely the BodyKit devices and the Altice commercial 5G network that were used to provide mobile coverage for the site. The event was considered an absolute success by the different parties involved, and it was raised the possibility of conducting further demonstrations of the 5G capabilities for PPDR scenarios, as well as the huge potential they may bring to real life field operations in the future.

“Innovative 5G services and experimentation for Public Protection and Disaster Relief” Webinar organised by 5G-EPICENTRE

News & Events “Innovative 5G services and experimentation for Public Protection and Disaster Relief” Webinar organised by 5G-EPICENTRE” On June 24, 2022, 5G-EPICENTRE organised the webinar titled “Innovative 5G services and experimentation for Public Protection and Disaster Relief”, in order to present the project and its goals to Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) community practitioners. The main scope of the webinar was to examine the project from a domain-specific viewpoint and present interesting applications and 5G-based PPDR services enabled by the 5G-EPICENTRE tools for experimentation.  DARLENE H2020 project has participated to the webinar, including its partners from Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs). Therefore, four (4) out of the eight (8) use cases of 5G-EPICENTRE were presented from the end users point-of-view, aiming to highlight the added value that the LEAs would gain from the proposed solutions.  More information regarding the webinar can be found here.

OneSource (ONE) has collected preliminary KPI values using 5G at Altice Labs (ALB) testbed

News & Events OneSource (ONE) has collected preliminary KPI values using 5G at Altice Labs (ALB) testbed After conducting successful 5G connectivity tests, ONE has focused on collecting preliminary values of the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) defined under 5G-EPICENTRE for its Use Case (UC). That was achieved on the past April 5th at the ALB testbed, using the mechanisms implemented on the Mobitrust components and, of course, thanks to the tight collaboration between ALB and ONE teams. In the future, the values of the KPIs will be propagated through the different layers of the project and finally presented on the project Portal, using appropriate graphical tools aiming to display to the end-user, the metrics collected using 5G connectivity. The collection of KPIs is crucial for the validation of the theoretical benefits behind 5G, in specific those that are expected to impact vertical applications, such as the ones behind the use cases considered in the project, namely: guarantees of Quality-of-Service (QoS), low latencies, higher bandwidth, enabling edge computing (present in cloud-native paradigms), etc.

OneSource (ONE) has successfully conducted 5G connectivity tests at Altice Labs (ALB) testbed

News & Events OneSource (ONE) has successfully conducted 5G connectivity tests at Altice Labs (ALB) testbed On February 15th, OneSource’s team was in Aveiro at Altice Labs to conduct 5G connectivity tests with its Mobitrust platform running over the 5G-EPICENTRE Kubernetes infrastructure. In these testes the Mobitrust devices were able to successfully establish a 5G connection between the devices 5G modems and the Altice 5G SA testbed infrastructure. OneSource validated that IoT, video, audio and control data from the devices was delivered thought to the Mobitrust platform components at the 5G-EPICENTRE Kubernetes infrastructure. The success of this experiment was only possible due to a tight collaboration between the teams of both OneSource and Altice Labs.  As part of the continuous improvement and evolution of the Mobitrust as a Network Application for 5G-EPICENTRE, OneSource will continue to conduct research, development and experimentation activities aiming to achieve a fully resilient and capable platform for Mission Critical environments using 5G technologies.
